Can a fourteen year old take Driver Education?
Yes, he/she can take the entire 32 class hours, but the student can not get the permit and get behind the wheel until he/she is 15.
My child will be late for class, is that okay?
If your child is going to be late for class, it is best to skip the class and do a make up lesson. The instructor will not let the student in if they are late.
My child is involved in many activities at school - he/she will be missing several days, is that okay?
The students can miss no more than 5 days, and those days must be made up. If the student misses more than 5 days, he/she is withdrawn from that class and must re-enter in the next class.
What is a PROOF OF SCHOOL ENROLLMENT?
(VOE form) This form is obtained from the student's high school. (During school year - expires every 30 days. During summer - obtain the last week of school - good until next school year.)
Home School: The parent should write a letter stating that the student is home-schooled.
If enrolled in a GED program: talk to administrator about getting proof of school enrollment. If finished GED, use GED Certificate.
What does my child need for class on day 1? LHDA will provide all necessary supplies for the class (pen, paper, folder etc.)
What information do I need to bring to the DPS office in order to receive an Instruction Permit? SS Card (you must have the card), Original Birth Certificate or valid Passport, VOE (verification of enrollment from the high school) DE 964 (provided by LHDA), and $5.00 fee.
